OC&G: Who else thinks that Mo'Niques performance in Precious is most deserving for the Oscar?

...of best supporting actress? But doubts she will get it. I thought she was outstanding in that movie, she was phenonemal and she pulled that character together in such a real way. But, even though I really want her to get the Oscar, her talent deserves it.

I think she will get it. Everyone loves Monique. But, in all honesty- she played the hell out of that role. She had me -smh. Esp; the first scene, where she cussed her daughter out- the way she did it. It was so raw-

add: lol Ello. yep- thats when you know someone played a role up- when you still hate them after the movie has ended. It took me years to forgive Danny Glover after watching Color Purple. lol.

I was never a fan of Mo'Nique since I first saw her on the Parkers or Night at the Apollo.

But this movie made me appreciate her talent.

I thought she was powerful. I hope she wins too.

  • Absolutely... During the movie I forgot it was all an act... I really wanted to go through the screen and kick her ***. Not only that, I hated her even AFTER the movie! I had to keep reminding myself that it was a film. I couldn't disassociate the two.

    She did an outstanding job.

EDIT: Cocoa - ROFL! Me too! I LOVE The Color Purple and every time I watch it I STILL get upset with him.

I thought she did a great job. The scene with the social worker visiting and leaving her apartment was awesome.

Never saw the movie, but I saw the reviews. But you know the industry is prejudice. Hell, Denzel didn't get his first Oscar until his fourth nomination!

I think that from her talent alone, yes, she deserves it, however, in another way, the role can be interpreted as pretty degrading. It's sort of comparable to the "Monster's Ball" situation, where although, yeah, objectively speaking, Halle gave an Oscar-worthy performance--the characterization was still quite degrading and didn't exactly promote a very positive image of Black women. If Monique wins, though, I'll still be happy for her! :-)

She did a good job. But that open marriage crap she has with her husband is not cutting, Mo'Nigue of all people too! That man has seriously brain washed her Fat a*8 lol.

She was great but I think Gabourey Sidibe is not getting enough recognition for her part.

I didn't see it but apparently the academy thinks so, it's all based on opinions.
