Statistics help - Why is the answer to this question 10*10*10?
"Suppose the combination to a safe has three digits. How many choices are there for opening the safe?"
I want to understand the answer. Wouldn't the combination possibilities depend on the safe? Why is the answer 10^3?
I think I may have just answered my own question. It's because there are only 0-9 possibilities right?

The possibilities do depend on the safe, but you should assume that for this safe each digit can go from 0 to 9. So there are 10 possibilities for each digit, and 10*10*10 = 10^3 = 1000. This is easy to check, because there are 1000 numbers between 000 and 999.

the safe would be able to have a 3 digit combo because it only has three numbers meaning that the possible combinations could be 000,001,002,003..450,451..890,891...998,999 so this means that there could be 1000 combinations
