Nervousness when playing my instrument in front of people? Limiting my breath support?

Hi guys :) I have a music prac soon and I have a few issues breathing through phrases because I get short of breath from my nerves!

I'm fine singing in front of people but I get really nervous playing my recorder because I've never really played in front of anyone before. Does anybody have any performance tips to assist my breathing and suppress the nerves?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Update:

-_- Its a proper instrument and I play it seriously plus its for my grade 12 marks but thanks for the answer anyway

You might try breathing slowly through your nose, and count each breath for 10 breaths. Try counting backwards. This will give you time to calm down, and it's sort of like self hypnosis. If that doesn't work, do it again.

If you really practice enough to know the piece, once you start playing remember to enjoy it. If you are having fun you won't be nervous. I can be nervous before I play, but once I start the music takes over.

Why not play the songs for your friends, or out in the garden for the birds? Make it a normal thing you do for fun.

Besides, it just recorder. It's not like you're a concert violinist in front of 20,000 people. It won't be the end of the world if you make a mistake. Don't stop, just keep going and no one will remember it happened by the end of the song. Just like if you were talking.
