Is it true that every possible setup for a solitaire game can be won?

Question

As an avid player of solitaire, I'm quite curious. I once read that every possible set up for a standard game of solitaire can be won with the right combination of moves. Now, I recall playing about three games in the course of my life where I'm almost certain that not a SINGLE move could be made, and I've played a handful more where only a few moves seemed possible.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

no not every setup can be won. for example if there was a red queen and two aces underneath on the first draw, then a red queen and the other two aces underneath, and the a black jack and the two black kings on the third draw, it would be impossible to get the aces, so game over.

It is false.  Not every possible setup for Solitaire can be won.  As someone above mentioned, there are combinations that cannot be won.  This also holds true for other card games like FreeCell.

I play Spider Solitaire a lot. The trick in to get as many cards turned over as soon as you can. Then you win every time.

depends on which version you play, some versions will give you the option to have all games winnable. if you are playing Free cell, then it is theorized (but not proven) that all games are winnable. If your playing spider solitaire, or the standard PC version of Solitaire, then not all games are winnable.
