I want to create what looks like actual rain on an illustration I have almost completed.?

I did not want to use the typical diagonal lines to illustrate a hard down pour. I have tried a few silver acrylic paints but they do not show up enough against the white fog I have laid in with pastel powder. Has anyone been able to create the real rain drop look?

Update:

This piece is traditional art I am doing on lightly textured paper.

Update 2:

This art is conventional art, I need a method of applying realistic rain not diagonal lines. Silver paint has not worked. Thank you for helping
