3 AnswersGovernment10 years agoAre the power lines of towns that are obliterated by tornadoes, ever placed underground?
Whether power lines are damaged or taken down by tornadoes, hurricanes or ice storms, would it make some sense to place them underground when they do to wire and pole replacement. in some places, replacement of power lines has been done more than once. It does appear that power lines are the first infrastructure to fail and often during very cold weather. Placing power lines underground may be more costly than above ground but in areas where power lines come down every year, it must reach a point where putting the power lines has a safety and cost benefit.

4 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoGas turbines, a great innovation, does anyone know of some new uses we can look forward to seeing?
Back in the sixties Chrysler corp. had a gas turbine in a full size car at the New York Worlds fair and a gas turbine race car won a indy race and broke records. We hear nothing of this awesome power plant being used in innovative ways. Turbo prop planes use them so there must be more applications for this very efficient and powerful engine. We live in a world of miniaturization, I know there are many more applications for this proven power plant.

1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoNasal polyps, non surgical remedies?
Research I've done shows that surgically removing nasal polyps is only a temporary solution and that by the time patients are released from the hospital, the polyps have already started to regrow. I have no taste or smell, are there other ways to shrink polyps so I get my smell and taste back ???

2 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoAnyone know the name of a cartoon where the artist draws a clown who jumps in to the cartoon, 50's or 60' TV?
It was a fascinating television cartoon in the fifties or early sixties where you see an artists hand drawing a clown in a black and white cartoon which features an ink bottle where the clown gets back in to the ink bottle at the end. Does anyone know the clowns name and perhaps the artist and the year it was on TV? Thanks
1 AnswerComics & Animation1 decade agoI want to create what looks like actual rain on an illustration I have almost completed.?
I did not want to use the typical diagonal lines to illustrate a hard down pour. I have tried a few silver acrylic paints but they do not show up enough against the white fog I have laid in with pastel powder. Has anyone been able to create the real rain drop look?
1 AnswerDrawing & Illustration1 decade agoImpressionist and Realism are two known art styles, as an artist do you consider any when doing your art?
The many types of art styles never entered my art world my entire art life which is more than five decades. Recently I have become more familiar with some and feel they would distract me from my own unique styles. I respect the rich history they portray yet will do as I have been doing, as an artist what are your thoughts about this?
5 AnswersPainting1 decade agoWhat do you think of when you learn someone you know has lost their sense of taste and smell? What would you t?
The truth is, what happens is that we instinctively use our memories of foods we once smelled and tasted to replace the missing taste and smell information we once had.
3 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoairplane wing and horizontal stabilizer locations?
Please keep your responses in simple terms anyone can understand. In non-jet powered aircraft, what determines what position the main wing is located (high fuselage or low) as well as the rear horizontal stabilizer (high or low). End use such as heavy lift craft like the High wing B52 and C5. are examples of high wing yet the B52 has not the high stabilizer position. Keep in mind, I will be explaining this to children and will be making planes with no engines. Thank you very much
3 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoAirplane design basics for hand thrown un-powered planes.?
I am not an engineer but an inventive experienced artist. I enjoy designing then flying small air planes with no engines. I find a spot with prevailing winds and test my designs. Some work right away, some need redesign., In simple terms, is there a source where I can see and easily understand placement of main wings(high and low fuselage positions) , rear stabilizer configurations such as in relation to the main wing configuration. The trial and error process of designing is rewarding in itself but understanding these basics would help me picture my designs before I design and make the parts (balsa wood, foam core board and ballast). Yes it takes a good arm to launch these planes but a good steady wind is always ideal. Thanks in advance for your insight.
