What was the year that the Social Security fund was tapped to solve a U.S. financial crises ?

There is this recollection I have of the social security fund being tapped to help with a crises. Because the memory is vague yet present, I want to confirm if in fact the fund had been tapped and approx. when.

Thank you

Rephrase the question "When was the SS fund NOT tapped to solve a debt crises incurred by stupid politicians?" It's been tapped so many time I can't keep up and I've worked here 22 years. PF

The Social Security surplus has been depleted for various projects by individual Congress people over a period of 30 years through both Dem and Rep administrations. The money was never used for a national crisis. Where did you get that idea?

That was done during the Nixon years, but I'm not sure which year it was.
