did Monique sell out by taking a roll in the movie Precious?

Monique is a hypocrite and a sellout. She did charm school to show women they should respect the roles they chose in front of the camera. Precious was worse than any Flavor of love episode. No real skill required to play that role. Real actors and actresses everywhere, just know that Monique has done to your craft what alot of these new rappers have done to hip hop. watered it down and pissed on the whole art form. That was not acting. All she did was curse and smoke in the movie. Tacky and low class. I am so disappointed in Monique and Tyler. I am not , how ever surprised by Oprah. Oprah likes to exploit sick twisted stories at the expense of black public perception. She sold out long ago. This movie never showed HOW the daughter overcame all this FICTIONAL mess. And I can do with out all of the light/white super hero's as well. Blacks must heavily stand against that stereotype because 1) it minimizes the idea that we have had to actually work/fight for everything we have and 2) no white woman has ever come to my rescue- usually quite the opposite. To feed into this way of thinking gives our children a false sense of how the real world works. My question only applies to black women who aren't drug addicted or Black men who have never dated white women (no offense). Are there any black AMERICAN people who feel this movie deserved air time much less an oscar? To all non black and non americans who may respond any way, I respect your opinion, but until you or your ancestors have fought for civil rights only to have them benefit every one but the people who fought for them, please remember- you do not begin to feel this pain. The irony of it all is that even after a civil rights movement, the only way blacks can get an oscar is by playing roles that make us look bad. Where was Denzel Oscar for Malcolm X-

Update:

1) I did not say slavery. I said civil rights. 2) whites still reap the benefits. 3) I am not african. I am a black american. and no other race was here doing the marching for civil rights. and I will get over it when blacks begin to reap the benefits of the country we built. We have a black president who caters to every one but blacks. we have a long way to go. dont get mad at me because Bush made most whites poor enough to feel like we are all in the same boat now. This is not about slavery. Its about another dumb black woman making us look bad after she publicly spoke against this behavior in the media. so pick your race fight elsewhere. stick to the subject. My new quetion: where is the reward for black women who no how to act. gabrielle, taraji, angela. bottum line, white america likes to make black women look unattractive. they reward it when we cater to their streotypes. until women of other races are viewed as unattractive in the media, once again YOU DONT FEEL THIS PAIN!

That's a typical response for lots of blacks that believe they were oppressed in some way. They aren't Keeping It Real anymore. and its either because they can actually articulate every word they say or maybe that they realized that everything is possible. it doesn't matter about race it matters about perception of life and perseverance. you are the perfect example of someone who isn't trying hard enough you just give up all the time and when you don't get what you want you blame it on being black. get over yourself im sure you have never been truly oppressed in your life. its just perceived oppression in your own mind.

So by going with what you wrote, only Black People know about Civil rights violations? Or racism? So you're saying that the Native Americans, Mexican and Hispanics, Asians, Irish, German, Women and many other peoples who were persecuted and who are still persecuted do not have an opinion that matters? I think you need to go back to school and research your history. Native Americans were persecuted long before Africans were brought to this country...

I don't think Monique's role makes black women look bad any more that Charlise Theron's role in Monster made white woman look bad. That's a stereotype.

You do realize that Precious, or Push was written by Sapphire, who's real name is Ramona Lofton, a black woman with a sexy shaved head?

Picture of a black woman with a sexy, shaved head:

The other thing I want to point out...I went to school in Sacramento, where the population of students at my schools were predominately black. However, the teachers were predominately white. It's not unlikely that a student would get help from a white teach since most are. I know when I had troubles in high school it was a history teacher who got me straightend out. He was white, I am hispanic. I don't have any issues with his race, he helped me. What the hell does it matter what color a person is...as long as they are helping another human being?

However I do understand you situation, no I do not feel 'your pain', but frankly - neither do you. Were you directly involved in slave trade? Were you marching for civil rights? Spare me the my ancestors bit.

I am a woman. I am not complaining about how I was not allowed to vote. How at one point in history I was considered property.

NO! Why? Because I wasn't. Women of the past were.

If you want to escape this 'persecution' you must get over yourself. Nobody cares you are black, nobody looks at you because you are black, Not many think less of you because you are black.

This false attention is brought on by your own insecurities.

Sell out? Seriously? She had to be talked into doing a roll that she knew everyone would hate, she didn't figure on everyone loving the performance! Very "Monster" like!

Oh, and Denzel's Oscar? Training Day - it was a quit believable story line! you know where the cop is just as bad as the rest of the hood!!! Now that's acting, huh?

Oh and in reference to that whole slavery thing, OOPS, our bad, sorry! My great-great-great-grandfather didn't own any slaves, but let me apologize for it anyway seeing that you will never move on until you feel vindicated! So, once and for all - WE'RE SORRY!!! Now you can stop using that crutch for everything that is wrong in your life! 8-)

It's evolution. It takes time to change. I like her playing comedy more. But you see, no comedy or sci-fi character/movie ever won the Oscar. So if she wants that doll, she's got to play the game. To me, I think getting it is better than not. Don't shoot me though. I'm just a dizzy red head.

Don't stuck in the past. Get out and smell roses. You will feel better.
