Frequent Internet Disconnection?

I'm using windows XP Professional with Windows Fire Wall.

The router i use is : Wireless Linksys WUS300N connected to LAN, and two PCs are sharing the network. I also use Norton 360.

When I get disconnected, I am unable to surf the net. But the icon in the taskbar will still show that I am still connected and signal strength is excellent.

The disconnections become more frequent some times, even when only one PC is on.

Can someone help me please!

Start at the modem and see if the internet led is on or off when disconnected. Work your way back to the router. Your problem may well be your modem or the incoming wiring.

  • The problem seems to me to be firewall related. You should not run windows firewall and norton at same time, it's not necessary and they will conflict. Turn your windows firewall off, run a comprehsive scan with norton. If the problem occurs after that open norton, go to settings, firewall protection, program rules, find your isp and change setting to allow.
