The U.S. had been interfering in Cuban affairs since the Spanish American War. I think the embargo is the lingering result of Castro's defeating U.S. attempts (like the Bay of Pigs) to overthrow his communist government. There is also a vocal anti-Castro Cuban exile community in the U.S. that continues to support the Cuban embargo. As for the seizure of American owned assets in Cuba after 1959, don't forget that we also lost assets in China when Mao took over in 1949, including the huge sums of money and military equipment given to the Chinese during WW2.

China also fought the U.S. in Korea, something the Soviet Union or Cuba never did (directly).

We have allowed trade to grow with China mostly to benefit U.S. corporations, who found a cheap and good source of manufactured goods in Red China.

China is "communist" in call basically. It keeps the worst element of the former u.s.: a repressive totalitarian state witn no civil liberties. China as an finished has benefited from the 1000's of factories opened on behalf of quite many times U.S. companies. the staff interior the factories, on the different hand, make pennies an hour, paintings lengthy hours without rights and many times stay in small quarters in reformatory like dorms. Cuba does no longer participate in Capitalist exploitation. that is why the U.S. has had economic sanctions adverse to Cuba for pretty a lot 50 years-adverse to global opinion. in truth for 16 consecutive years the United international locations has condemned the U.S. sanctions on Cuba; in 2007 the vote became 184-4.

    China owns the US congress

Despite a sharp reduction in its official stash of U.S. Treasuries, China is far from bailing on the world's safest and deepest market, analysts say.

Indeed, China may be adding to its vast hoard through secret purchases made through foreign banks. Such transactions do not show up in the U.S. data.

    Cuz Cuba makes worthless s***.

China actually has goods to offer to us. All Cuba has to offer is refugees on inner tubes.

Bill Clinton -- who added China to the list of "favored trading partners" -- is still around.

    Ask him...

I would think it has something too do with the fact that one is 90 miles away and the other is 7000 miles

Because we are in bed with China.
