Blazer made awful grinding noise when i shifted into reverse & park..?

Oh please tell me it could be sumthin less costly then transmission!! Just bought yesterday and when leavin store when shifted into reverse made awful noise like flywheel would make.. did it again @ home when shifted into park.. HELP!!

2002 Blazer 2wd

Update:

ok its automatic sorry i didnt post that..

grr driving it to see if will do it again and it wont! not a peep! putting it in park then drive.. etc nada quiet as a mouse.

BEING JUST BOUGHT IT YESTERDAY THEY HEARD SAME THING THOUGHT TRANSMISSION AND GOT RID OF IT...

so noise could stem from shifting and not be the actual transmission? anything less i could deal with.. Paid 3300 90K miles and thought we did good..lol NOT if we have to put in every last penny of our tax check :( might even be shy couple hundred to pay for trans....

Update 2:

JAKE YES ITS GRINDING NOISE.. i am now going to find out what synchronizer is and how much to fix..

This sort of thing happens a lot most of the the time it doesn't hurt any thing . You need to park on a hill and put it in park an see if it holds and it doesn't roll.My guess is you have already tried reverse to see if it still works.

Well first of all to the question answer posted by mike- a manual doesn't have park. I guess you could park it on a hill and see if it stays in park. It would be safer on flat ground then just push it. I would believe it could have a bad syncronizer if it grinds when its being shifted.

Can't tell much without knowing if it's an automatic or manual transmission. Also can't tell from here what it sounds like so your best bet would be a good mechanic.

additionally, make confident to artwork out if there is leakage or weeping on the hydraulic cylinder - on social amassing it somewhat is the 1st sign of the cylinder commencing to flow, and not completely liberating the grasp.
