Adult seeks ideas for "green" gift for 13-year old!?

I'm attending a bar mitzvah soon for a kid who is very much into environmental issues, and I'd like my gift to be in this area. He lives in New York City, Upper West Side, a stone's throw from Broadway (up there), so he's a sophisticated urbanite--as sophisticated as one can be at 13. If possible, I want to get him something other than money or a donation to some cause or another or a gift card or anything electronic, video or computer related. I'm figuring $50 to $100. Any ideas? Thanks.

    I have a couple ideas...

The green millionaire is a great book that not only is full of great ideas on go to go greener, but on how to profit on them as well. (about $20)

With him living in a urban environment you could get him a plant... I love tomato trees the ones that hang up-side-down.

You said you didn't want to get him another gadget... how about a solar charger for all his gadgets. I picked up one for mine... don't even consider myself green but it sure is handy on trips ($25 at pep boys)

You could build or buy him a small worm bin to compost his family's food scraps. They can be kept anywhere, even apartments, and they're very clean. They don't smell at all when they're kept right and the fertilizer is very rich. It's a great way to get rid of scraps and get something very beneficial in turn.

David Suzuki an award-winning scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster has a book called "David Suzuki's Green Guide". It is very informative if he is interested in the environment. You could also make a donation to his foundation in the boys name.
