Has anyone sold on Etsy?

For those of you who have sold on Etsy what was your experience? Was it hard to make a profit and how long did it take until someone wanted to buy your product? I have signed up and want to try and sell.

Thanks

I started selling within the first week. I was a bit astonished, really. However, after a few months, my sales tanked right before Christmas. I had to get ready for a show, though, so I put my shop in vacation mode -- and once the show is done, I fully intend to start up my shop again with new items -- and expect I will do well again.

The 2 issues I found were that you spend more on fees than you expect, because you end up 'relisting' items to get them back at the top of the product list. And you have to spend more time promoting yourself than you might expect. Hitting the internal forums on the site and 'chatting' there puts your product out for other folks to see -- and that will help your sales.

Finally, if they have worked out the bugs with Google Products, you should start showing up in Google Search when people shop. So look for that. If it is still not working right, you may need to upload the data yourself (tricky, but if you have good computer skills, it is pretty doable).

    Good luck!
