Viewing 3D Movies in the home?

With the recent trend in 3D movies, what will I need to view these new movies in my home? I know I will need special glasses, but will my present Blu-Ray DVD player play the 3D DVD? Will my present plasma screen need to be replaced?

At the present time are there different formats competing for the market like Blu-Ray and HD did a few months ago and beta max and VHS did years ago?

    You need the following

1.New 3D Blu ray capable player ( HDMI 1.4a is required for transmission of 3D HD video which is not found in old blu ray players)

2.3D capable HDTV with minimum of 120 Hz refresh rate

3.Active shutter 3D glasses (Provided for free with most new 3D TVs)

4.Receiver with HDMI 1.4a input and output if you have a home theater.

Regarding your other question , Blu Ray 3D is the only format available now or in the foreseeable future for home 3D.

Monsters Vs Aliens (bad movie) is the only available 3D Blu Ray disc available now .(Shrek is coming out soon).

3D TVs and Blu ray players are very expensive right now and new technology generally has many bugs so wait for a couple of years to upgrade your setup.

They just had an article about this in the San Diego Union Tribune this morning (Business section). And, you need to have a 3D-compatible Blu Ray player and TV, which will add about $500 to the cost of the equipment over similar conventional equipment. And, there's only a couple of actual 3D movies out right now (one being Avatar), although there may be some games available. Still, it's kind of like spending an extra several hundred dollars for a surround sound receiver when the only audio programming available is stereo.

You will need a 3d capable tv along with a 3d capable blu ray player. I believe certain blu ray players will have 3d capability after a firmware update because the PS3 is now capable of 3d. Unfortunately you'll need a new TV to watch 3d. All of that stuff is due out today actually with more options coming later this year. Blu Ray is the only format supporting blu ray at the moment.
