Has anybody seen the film 'The Lovely Bones'? Did you enjoy it?

Have you read the book? Which one did you think was better? Thanks for your answers

The film is good, but it misses so much out and some things in it don't make much sense. In the book the story spans 8 years. There is alot more about the relationship between Ruth and Ray and also between Samuel and Lindsay in the book.

I read the book first when i was 10, and wasn't especially disturbed by it as most people would imagine 10 year old's to be. I read it again recently at the age of 15.

The film is alot more innocent.

In the book Susie and Ray kiss (whilst shes alive) unlike in the film where they dont until she turns into Ruth. The book focuses more on how Lindsay tries to cope with it all. She and her boyfriend Samuel have sex when they're about 13/14 which i guess they didnt put in the film as people may claim it to promote underaged sex etc. This is what Susie wants. When her soul goes into ruths body, (in the book when ray and ruth are at the age of about 23) Ray and "Susie" have sex.

In the book Her dad goes into hospital twice, first time like the one in the film and the second time 8 years later after having a heart attack following a conversation with Buckley (age 12 at this point).

The mother begins an affair with Len the police detective the first time her husband is admitted into hospital, and soon after this she leaves her husband, unlike in the film where she has already left before he is admitted to hospital, where they make up; in the film they only make up 8 years later when Susie's dad has the heart attack.

The film looked good and the acting was prettygood, but it was too different and too innocent in comparison to the book. Susie was way to innocent for her age, and her soft voice didn't really fit to a 14 year old but i guess its how she was told to do it :L. Alot of things didn't add up as strongly as they did in the book which made me feel the film didnt really work or have as much bite as the book. For all necessary things to be included the film would probably end up 1 to 2 hours longer, so this wouldn't work as a film :P...

I prefer the book and recommend it to everyone. The film is too sheltered from reality, made into more of a family film style acceptable of parents to let their kids watch.

    Xx

I haven't seen it, but a friend did a review for a magazine I publish and gave it 3 out of 5, summing it up as "A flawed but not flaccid thriller, treading ground where other's fear to tread"
