Why didn't the 49ers pull the trigger on the Michael Vick trade?

I'm a die hard 49ers fan and I'm a little pissed they didn't get Michael Vick and decided to go instead for a washed up David Carr.

http://sfo.scout.com/2/952902.html

What are your thoughts?

BQ:Do you hear of any rumors involving the 49ers?

BQ2:Who should the 49ers take with the 13th and 17th overall pick in this year's draft?

BQ3:Do you think the 49ers can win the NFC West with their current roster?

Star if you think the Niners make the playoffs.

Update:

@Ambassador- You have a point there, nice answer.

Die hard huh........ I am a hardcore 49er fan and I will tell you that their was no trigger to pull with Michael Vick. As a matter of fact, I am bothered that you think that piece of trash, can't throw for crap, glorified RB would be a good fit for the 49ers, who are obviously on the rise. Vick has the lowest pass completion percentage than any QB in the league. We do not need a football player who only trusts himself to make a play. That is why he is always trying to do the Curly Shuffle in the backfield.

I am perfectly fine rolling out with Alex Smith because he has improved. Smith was inconsistent, but I think a lot of it had to do with Mike Singletary and Jimmy Raye trying to figure out the best way to utilize him. On top of that, this will be the first time that Smith will roll out with the same OC and not have to learn a new playbook from scratch again. Continuity is what made it difficult for Smith to succeed followed by a very poor O-line protecting him.

The 49ers are in great shape right now going into the draft with 2 1st round picks. The 49ers are interested in building through the draft and I am on board with that 100%. The best teams in the league build through the draft and don't rely heavily in FA. Just look how picking up big name FA's have done with teams such as the Cowboys, Redskins, and Raiders. Teams like the Saints, Colts, Eagles, and Steelers built their team's through the draft.

Will they go to the playoffs? Nothing is a sure thing, but I believe they are entering the 2010 season with a lot of positives. Especially with all the key players the Cardinals have lost in FA.

If Michael Vick was worth it, don't you think some team would have picked him up by now? Not even the Browns, who are in desperate need of a QB, has not considered Vick. What we need is a QB to throw and complete passes, not break dance in the backfield. We already have a bad a$ss RB, Frank Gore to run the ball.

Thumbs up to those who agree.

I'm also a huge niners fan but live across the bay.

Michael Vick is a bad choice for lots of reasons. If you've watched a 49ers game in the past few years, none were as horrible to watch as opening day 2004. It was the beginning of the end when conVICKted beat us 21-19. And besides, Michael Vick would be a T.O. Act II. It was just not a good idea and I'm glad they went with a guy who was a practical clone of Alex Smith, what with growing up behind a horrible o-line and getting no chance until the future SB champs found faith in them.

1.For rumors, I heard planty of things. Some are drafting Tim Tebow or Jahvid Best, and others include sending away certain players for draft picks.

    2. I think they should go with the cal guy in JB and surprise us with a breakout star.

    3. It's not a question if they can win because of themselves, it's about the competitiion. The Seahawks and Rams can automatically be discarded, and minus Anquan Boldin and Kurt Warner, I think we can safely pocket the cards. They definently have a good shot.

They are going to make the playoffs, like it or not.

I just don't see the opportunity for him to play at all. Roger Goodell, the NFL Commish, said that what he did is cruel and reprehensible. On top of that, Vick Violated the NFL's Personal Conduct Policies, which states that the players are not allowed to participate in any form of gambling whatsoever. First time offenders risk being banned for life. All professional sports organizations have this type of policy. A perfect example of this rule would be what happened to Pete Rose. Remember, Michael Vick funded most of the gambling ring, contributed, and did this over the course of 6 years. This was no accident and definitely premeditated. The NFL has a bad reputation of having players always getting into trouble off the field and engaging in some criminal act or another. Most other sports organizations have strict policies in place where the player knows not to cross that line. However, the NFL is well known for being soft and constantly giving chances. Perfect example is Pacman Jones. As long as chances are given out like a Get Out of Jail Card from Monopoly, players will continue to act criminally with the idea that an attorney will fix everything. The NFL needs to finally put their foot down and make an example out of Vick to the current and future players. NFL players are not above the law of the land and God. Something needs to get done soon before it continues to get worse. Someone could get killed. Perfect example is Plaxico Burress. Lastly, he will not be embraced by the Asian community. That is some pretty poor stereotypical humor. I am half Asian just to let you know. Thumbs up to those who agree.

The Eagles want to hang on to Vick. I guess the Niners might also see some potential in Smith and think Carr will be a good backup.

    BQ2: Get a better O-line! Draft some solid OG/tackles

BQ3: Almost certainly. They have a beastly defense and with the Cardinals weakened they'll be a lock to win the NFC West.

personally i like the idea of having vick. where i agree he needs to work on his passing more than running... singletary would work his crap out.

and we need an o-line. protect alex or david.. whoever wins the starting job... and we have even better chances of going all the way.

and we got the nfc west locked up. the only real issue we would have is the broken down cardnals... who arent gonna go .500 this year imo

and frisco is in the playoffs for shure. hopefully sb champs :)

i think the best sb ever would be sf vs baltimore this year! the teams compliment eachother almost perfectly :) would be a great game!

    go niners!!!

I'm surprised that the 49ers would be interested in one of the worst QBs in the league. As a 49ers fan, you should be glad. But I can tell you think Vick's a good QB. Oh well.

Vick hasn't done crap as a passer since he came to the NFL. His completion % is a little over 50%.

    BQ1: No

    BQ2: WR and QB.

    BQ3: Yes
