What's the penallty for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident?
It was a bump with a parked car in a supermarket car park. By the way, before you climb in, it wasn't me, I think it's a shocking thing to do and I'm just curious as to what will happen to the guy who did it (who has been caught).

Supermarket car park = Private Property. Vehicle code does not apply. If not deliberate, penal code does not apply. Civil code at best. Probably a small claims court filing.

I think in the eyes of the law you have 24 hours to report an accident such as that, so if you were to go to the police before they caught up with you i think you would be ok, as long as you have got tax, insurance and mot. If you haven't then you shouldnt even have the car registered in your name so in theory if you get rid of the car the police probably wont catch up with you.

Varies state by state, also depends on monitery damages. Best to always leave a note on how to contact you.
