Wearing the kilt is a choice no matter where you get married.

Pure preference. Many Scot men never don a kilt, even in Scotland, or anywhere else. Other guys where them just for special occasions, and even some, not even Scottish wear either traditional or contemporary kilts all the time.

There are so many myths about the kilt. So many get eaten up with the clan thing. It's best to go with what feels right, for both people in the wedding and hopefully nothing clashes.

I know for myself, although quite kilted, know the kilt is the national dress of Scotland, it's not unlike what a Cowboy hat is to Texas. You don't have to be in Texas to wear one, or even be a Texan. Same thing applies with the kilt.

I have seen men in kilts at American weddings, very cool and unique. I am a big person on authenticity so I would try to get his "clan's" plaid. Some people just use whatever color fits their theme and that is not really the point of kilts.

My boyfriend is Scottish and when we get married (in Canada) he is quite adament that he wear his traditional kilt. I on the other hand recognize it is a losing battle to get him in pants for the entire evening, and have decided to compromise with allowing him to wear it for the ceremony. I think it really depends on what your fiance wants, if he wants to recognize the tradition or not...not based on where you are getting married.

If the groom wishes to wear a dress kilt, he certainly can, regardless of where they marry. The bride can also wear that sash thing over her wedding gown, if she chooses to. I've seen it done before, plenty of times.

I say stick to your traditions. It's your heritage be proud of it. Besides, let me tell you something asking your friends and best man to wear kilts will certainly weed out friends from acquaintances LOL.

At our church, we had a wedding where all the men wore kilts. The groom was of Scottish descent but born in USA.

hello, i latterly were given married and we had an extremely tradtional scottish wedding ceremony, i'm scottish and my hubby is irish/scottish and he and his irish groomsmen all wore kilts (it replaced right into a 1st for the irish boys lol) usually i ought to assert that authentic scots bypass commando,,,, yet on condition that it truly is a wedding ceremony and there are probably to be all age ranges (childrens and pensioners - wi dodgy tickers lol) about and as you say lots of alcohol flowing, i ought to err on the edge of caution and positioned on boxers,,,,,, our scottish boys wore saltire boxers and the irish wore tri colour boxers,,,,, so possibly you need to mixture the scottish custom including your human being nationality??? Your correct to be careful as our maximum ideal guy (who's scottish) had went to his room to take his boxers off after the ceremony as he had to be authentic scottish - in effortless words to modify his thoughts on the merely correct minute, boy he replaced into happy he did, as once he got here again downstairs to the ceilidh, a number of the girls desirous to ascertain out if he replaced right into a real scotsman and 'weeked' (lifted) his kilt up for all to work out what replaced into below, exposing to all and distinctive lol,,,,, i ought to assert do notwithstanding your delicate with, and benefit from the marriage, your in for a actual take care of, the scottish way :-)
