What does St. Patrick's day mean to you?

I'm from Donegal and not religious, but I still recognise it as our national holiday. Sadly my town doesn't have a parade anymore, but I'm going to see one in the next town, and will spend the day in the pub with friends. You?

Do you live in Ireland or elsewhere?

What does St Patrick's day mean to you?

What will you be doing and will you be dressing up?

In Dublin the parade rocks and there is a carnival. I usually bring my nephew. I always dress up. When I was a kid I went to a catholic school so I did observe the religious meaning of the the day and I remember we used to spend weeks reading about his life. Since I turned 18 (and got a valid ID) Saint Patrick's day is about partying.

The meaning of the day has changed since I've gotten older. Saints Patrick's Day now is like an international Irish day in which we get to embrace all the ridiculous stereotypes of our culture.

No, I do NOT live in Ireland but a small town in Pennsylvania near Baltimore.

Hmm, I have been losing track of the days lately. This year, especially. So, it means my mother making corned beef and some green vegetable(i forgot which) and if I remember I'll wear what green i can find.

I'll be doing nothing special. Look at photographs of Lake Michigan in Chicago being dyed green. Attending school. That's what it means to me. It's a 1/3 big deal over here.

yet another concept is that it is the day that St Patrick and his fellow christians tried to kill off the Pagans that have been in eire - consequently the story of "St Patrick employing the snakes out of eire". there became in no way any snakes in eire... the waters are too chilly for any snakes to migrate to that section (New Zealand additionally has no snakes and this is prohibited to transport any to those places). The rumor is that St Patrick called on his god and the floor unfolded and swallowed the druids. the only difficulty with this tale is the glaring pagan symbolism throughout eire even after St Patrick. something else i got here across thrilling approximately St Patricks day, from some acquaintances I even have that moved to eire. they don't have fun it there. some could be conscious it in the event that they think approximately St Patrick their customer saint, yet previous that, St Patrick isn't recognized like that in the process eire. only between Christians in u.s. is he glorified in this manner.

I live in the States, but have Irish Ancestry.

St. Patrick's day is a day where I take the time to learn more about being Irish and spending time with family.

I will wear green =) Probably a green shirt. I also have green pearl earrings and a green cross. I will also make sure that I wear my Claddagh ring (I switch between that and a regular wedding band).

    Have a nice week!

I live in the US and it's basically just a day to drink. Most people have no idea why it's celebrated. For me, I celebrate it because it's my birthday and this year I'll be 21!
