What does St. Patrick's day mean to you?

In Dublin the parade rocks and there is a carnival. I usually bring my nephew. I always dress up. When I was a kid I went to a catholic school so I did observe the religious meaning of the the day and I remember we used to spend weeks reading about his life. Since I turned 18 (and got a valid ID) Saint Patrick's day is about partying.

The meaning of the day has changed since I've gotten older. Saints Patrick's Day now is like an international Irish day in which we get to embrace all the ridiculous stereotypes of our culture.

Hmm, I have been losing track of the days lately. This year, especially. So, it means my mother making corned beef and some green vegetable(i forgot which) and if I remember I'll wear what green i can find.

I'll be doing nothing special. Look at photographs of Lake Michigan in Chicago being dyed green. Attending school. That's what it means to me. It's a 1/3 big deal over here.

St. Patrick's day is a day where I take the time to learn more about being Irish and spending time with family.

I will wear green =) Probably a green shirt. I also have green pearl earrings and a green cross. I will also make sure that I wear my Claddagh ring (I switch between that and a regular wedding band).

I live in Canada. I'm not religious but I still celebrate St Patrick's Day, its a good time for everyone. It's also my birthday on the 17th, so I'll be celebrating that day too :) and wearing green is a given!

I live in the US and it's basically just a day to drink. Most people have no idea why it's celebrated. For me, I celebrate it because it's my birthday and this year I'll be 21!

Im Irish from Dublin, and it means celebrating your Irishness, and everyone around the world taking notice and celebrating our amazing little country.

Around here in Indiana it is just a day stupid people like to get flat out drunk on, there is no saint that is mentioned at all.

I live i cork. Paddy's day means a day off school, mass, a shitty parade and drink!!

I wear fairly dressy clothes and any colour because I hate green!
