  • Work experience in US: What is the difference between pre-practicum, practicum, internship?

    Heya,

I'm an Irish student and I will be spending next semester in an American college. This will involve 3 months work placement (field experience), however I have not been given much info about it yet.

I am finding the terms a bit confusing. What is the main difference between pre-practicum, practicum and internship? How long are they generally? At what stage in their studies would students usually complete these?

I am in the third year of a four year honours degree programme here in Ireland, this will be my second and final work experience. Do you think it likely that this work placement will be known as an intership or a practicum?

    Thanks for any insight,

  • Balinlough castle (Clonmellon,Co. Meath) taxi?

I'll be traveling from Donegal to Ballinlough Castle. I don't have my own transport, so I was thinking along the lines of traveling with Bus Eireann to either Clonmellon, Athboy or Kells. Would that be my best option? Or are there any buses that go by the castle? I'm really not familiar with Meath.

From these towns, I think my only choice is to get a taxi.

Can anyone recommend taxi firms that would run in this area? I've looked online and got a few numbers, but I'm a bit unsure about them and would like to know about taxi's people have used before.

    Thanks

  • Carageen Moss for desserts?

I bought some carageen moss recently, as I heard that it can be used instead of gelatine to make jelly.

Does anyone have any recipes for desserts that I could make? I'm not vegan, so dairy is fine.

    Thanks

  • Can I leave Mumbai airport (12hr layover)?

I have been looking at flights to Singapore via Mumbai.

There is a 12 hour layover where I would like to leave the airport and explore the city.

On the return journey there is a 15 hour overnight layover, I would like to leave the airport and check in to a hotel.

Would I be able to do this? What type of visa would I need for entering the country twice? I'm confused by transit visa, travel visa and tourist visa etc.

  • User data at risk on Bebo?

I read somewhere recently that bebo is to be sold/taken over, and that it is recommended for people to delete their account so their personal data cannot be then owned and used by another company. At the time I thought I must look into this, but never did follow it up.

My problem now is that I can't remember where I read this, so not sure if it is true. It may have been in the Irish Times online, or from some link on my google newsfeed but I'm really not sure.

(posted this before on Internet section, but got no answers)

  • Who should I book cheap flights with from from uk/ ireland to singapore?

I'm finding it difficult to narrow down all the airlines and travel agents. Some of the deals I have come across look to good to be true!! I'm apprehensive about booking over the internet/phone with a company I've not heard of.

Can anyone point me in the direction of reputable agents or airlines? Who have you traveled with?

    Thanks for answers

  • What does St. Patrick's day mean to you?

I'm from Donegal and not religious, but I still recognise it as our national holiday. Sadly my town doesn't have a parade anymore, but I'm going to see one in the next town, and will spend the day in the pub with friends. You?

Do you live in Ireland or elsewhere?

What does St Patrick's day mean to you?

What will you be doing and will you be dressing up?

  • How are the roads in Sligo?

Hiya, just wondering if anyone here can tell me how icy the roads are in Sligo. In donegal, the housing estates are still treacherous, I can't even walk down the road!

I'll be heading back to Sligo at the weekend for exams in the IT and want to know what my chances are of walking to college and around Sligo. The Cartron and Ballinode areas.

I've heard that Letterkenny IT have pushed back this week's exams because of the weather, but there has been no statement from IT Sligo, so I'm presuming they are on as normal.

    Cheers

  • Can you recommend songs from 50's 60's and 70's?

I'm making a playlist for my mum's birthday. Looking for recommendations of artists/songs that were popular in the UK ( Scotland) around this time. American songs are ok, lots of them were released here too.

I don't have a clue, but don't want anything too cheesy (and no Elvis, ha ha ha)

    All suggestions apprieciated!!

    Cheers

  • Creative activities for children aged 3-6 ?

    Hey everyone,

For my course I'm submitting a portfolio of activities. I'm out of fresh ideas and looking for some suggestions.

No need to go into detail, just looking for some ideas I can build upon.

I'm focusing on creative activities (not necessarily arts and crafts) for children aged 3-6.

    Thanks

  • Cheap things to do Belfast ?

I'm looking for recommendations of things to do in Belfast at the weekend that don't cost much money (or don't cost anything!)

Free museums or good places to visit during the day?

Bars or pubs that have decent live music (with no charge on the door) ?

Bars with a nightclub attached where you can get free entry to the club?

Places you can get free passes to clubs?

    That type of thing.

    All suggestions appreciated!

  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course with i to i?

I live in Ireland and would like to teach English abroad in summer 2010 for 3 months.

    Has anyone taken a course with the company ' i to i ' ?

I'm thinking about doing the 120hr combined course.

    http://www.i-to-i.com/tefl-courses/combined-tefl-c...

Will many english language schools accept this qualification? There is no teaching experience provided.

I would appreciate any advice or stories about your experiences with i to i.

  • Advice on Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) courses?

I'm a 3rd level student and would like a job teaching abroad during the summer.

Has anyone completed a TEFL/TESOL course here in Ireland?

I have been looking at the 120hrs with i to i, but I'm not sure what my job prospects would be, it seems that the course is not as recognised as others.

    http://www.i-to-i.com/tefl-courses/combined-tefl-c...

Would doing CELTA TEFL in Dublin or the Trinity London TESOL in Cork be worth it? It costs about three times as much, and is 4 weeks full time.

  • Sophie Atay appeal on the ITV news?

I thought I'd put this in the UK section, someone else has already brought it up in current events.

Sophie Atay is a 19mth old toddler and has neuroblastoma , a rare form of cancer with a low chance of survival. The treatment that would give her up to a 90% chance of survival is only available in America at a huge cost. Its heartbreaking.

    http://www.sophie-appeal.org/story.php

I heard her story for the first time on the ITN news earlier this evening. They already have around £100,000 raised, but still need to reach £500,000 in 12 days.

I saw that donations can be made online through "JustGiving" and added it as a cause on my facebook and forwarded it to my friends.

    She is also on twitter

    http://twitter.com/sophieatay

Like was said on the news this evening, if people just gave a pound, they would be able to raise the money. This little girl's time is running out.

Was this story been public knowledge in the UK before today? I hadn't heard it, but then I am in Ireland.

  • Taxi to Milton of Campsie (east dumbartonshire)?

I'm heading there next weekend for a wedding.

Does anyone know if it is outside the boundaries for Glasgow taxis and roughly how much the fare would be? What is the usual charge for leaving the city boundaries?

On return journey with a taxi firm from east dumbarton (e.g eastside cabs, Lenzie cabs) is there an exra charge for entering the city, seeing as they can't pick up on the way back?

Any insight would be of help

  • Price of living in Singapore?

Hi, a friend of mine is moving to Singapore from Ireland, and I am looking for some insider info.

I have 3 questions for people who live in or have lived in Singapore-

    1) What is a good area for a young person to live that is not too expensive and convenient for traveling to/from work in the CDB/Marina area?

    2) What would you say is the the average cost of living per month for a person and are there any hidden expenses( rent, food, bills, transport etc)

    3) Is there anything that isn't apparently obvious that she would need to know about moving there

I appreciate anything you can tell me, but please only answer if you know something. Also, could you state what experience of Singapore you have, I need to know the answer is reliable so I can pass the information to my friend. Cheers!

  • Knitting a jumper- patterns?

    Hi,

My sister is an intermediate knitter, She has no printer so I said I would look up some knitting patterns for her and print them. The problem is I have no idea where to start.

Her style is a bit hippyish, she wants something loose with no big collars or cuffs. She would then like to progress to something with a pointy hood.

Any links for websites with free patterns?
