2002 Ford Ranger brakes?

Yesterday my brakes went to almost nothing. Very hard to stop. Popped the hood and the master cylinder was bone dry. Filled it up and pumped brakes, no obvious leaks underneath or at the master itself. Pumped as much as I could and no pressure in brakes. What is going on. Once I have diagnosis I can do the repair myself. Bad master cylinder?

Get under the truck and look at the backside of each wheel to see if there's any wetness. Also, there's a brake line junction that is bolted to the top of the rear axle housing. Check to make sure the rubber portion of the brake lines are not chaffed or dry-rotted.

Most likely cause is a rusted brake line. you will have to get under car follow brake lines from font to back look for leak. If master was bone dry there is definitely a leak somewhere not likely to be master cylinder. Other possible places for a non obvious leak is the rear wheel cylinders crawl under rear and look at bottom of brake drum is it wet?? Good luck.

gotta find out where the fluid went before you start replacing parts/check between master cyl and power booster/really trace the brake lines and the wheel cylinders/have to find out where it went

Once air gets in the system, you must bleed all 4 corners.

Then, you have to find where the leak is.
