Exercising makes me SO hungry!?

I have just recently started going to the gym. I am going 3 times a week and doing roughly about 30-45 minutes of cardio on the elliptical and the other day i started to add in some of the weight machines. It has only been a week, but I since i have started working out i have been hungry ALL the time! It seems that I am eating more now than I was before. I mean I wasn't expecting to see any results right away, but how can results happen when I feel like I want to eat everything in sight? Can someone provide me with a guide on what to eat? Especially for the 3 days I go to the gym?

What should I eat before i work out (specific foods please)? And after I work out (specific foods please)?

I am just so frustrated. Please help!

Well this is almost the same thing I have been hearing all my life :) so you are just doing fine!.

ok, you need to divide your daily meals into 4 to 5 times a day.

Discipline is required, and I would advice you to do the following:

    a. consultant with a trainer and discus your diet options (you can email me for that too)

    b. divide your meals into 4-5 times a day (balance diet is required, PLEASE dont take any junk food or fired in oil food) try to eat filling salads and balance your protein, fat and curb diet!

    c. reduce cardio to 5 mins before starting and 5 mins after finishing your workout. instead do cardio between each workout (e.g. if you are doing bench press dont rest between the raps, goto cardio and do cardio for 1 min and back to your workout. this will help your heart rate up).

try above for 2 weeks and you will see the results yourself :D

It's a pain in the neck, isn't it?

A lot of the time, that feeling of hunger isn't actually hunger, but thirst. You've just spent a lot of water along with your energy, so drinking water or gatorade may help. Do not drink sugary drinks if you can avoid it!

Don't exercise on a full stomach, of course. I find that eating something about an hour before I exercise can make me less hungry after. My choices are usually something light but with some carbs to it for energy, like a half waffle or a bowl of cereal.

I try and schedule my workout so that it ends right before a meal, so that I can eat when I'm hungry and not graze until the next meal. If there isn't a meal coming up within the hour, I'll bring a protein bar (like a Clif bar or a Balance bar) to eat in the car on the way home as that will cut down on the need to eat something soon.

A friend of mine absolutely swears by having a glass of low-fat chocolate milk right after he works out. I haven't tried it myself, but hey, if it works that would be great, wouldn't it?

i used to have this problem.. but my bf, whose also my trainer got me used to eating about 40 minutes prior to working out. we eat a high protein and fiber meal.

you need foods that help you stay full longer. i keep, broccoli, squash, celery, carrots, chicken, bananas, apples, oranges, salmon, protein shakes, yogurt, oatmeal, almonds, flax/sunflower seeds, and a ton of beef jerky in stock at all times.

if you workout in the morning-- parfaits work. fruit and yogurt with oatmeal and a protein bar. if not a banana and a bar works. if you like to have an actual meal, have peanut butter/jam and toast & a banana. then have a protein shake. wait about 30-40 min and workout.

if working out later in the day- for lunch have a high protein diet. eggs, salmon, beef, or chicken. salads are great. snack on beef jerky, celery, carrots.

again, eat before a workout. it really works. if you are eating foods that are healthy but burning way to fast; maybe high in sugar or useless carbs, you will get hungry very soon. best of luck!

Thats right, excersising makes people hungry, and if you dont eat the right foods, you will gain weight instead of losing it. You have to eat foods high in fiber, full grains and vegies, lean meat

yea surely. you in reality depleted your body of saved ability so it desires to restock with extra nutrition. i continually have the surprising urge to eat after artwork outs yet maximum persons do not because they don't desire all their artwork to be positioned to waste. :-)
