Tell about your pets, how you care for them rodents only please?

Every time I go into a pet shop I see hamsters rubbing their noses raw on their little tanks, or chewing the bars manically, trying to get out. I see bunny rabbits lying looking so bored they could just die. I see the little prisons of goldfish bowls or hamster cages people keep their pets in...how is this better than someone keeping an unusual pet to the best of their ability? Its always people who know nothing about exotics who go on about how cruel it is, and that people who keep exotic pets don't know what they are doing. I often spend years researching before I buy new pets, and yes, I am convinced my exotic pets are just as happy as my "common" ones, because I go out of my way to make sure they are. Yes you get idiots keeping monkeys in their living room and letting their burmese pythons roam in their garden and kill the neighbors cats, but we're not all like that! My pet sugar gliders are tamer than one of my "regular" pets who was abused by her previous owner, if these are wild animals who hate living in my home how come they spend hours every day happily snoozing on my neck, playing games with me in the same way as a kitten might, and generally interacting with me in a way I bet the rabbits that tonnes of people have shoved in damp, dusty old hutches in their gardens never get the chance to do with their owners?

Anyway, I'm really interested to hear how people care for there RODENTS yes only rodents :) Also talk about Rabbits or Ferrets if you would like :)

Update:

angelica, this is my question. not yours, by the way i saw it on the internet and wanted to share it with thers you copied it off of the internet

Well, my little ratties are spoiled to death (: I hate seeing animals get bored.

-They have four seperate cages- one large main cage, one upstairs in the sun, one outside, and one portable so I can take them places.

-The main cage is six feet tall by three feet wide- with four levels, three ferret beds, a hammock, and tons of towels for burrowing

-they have chew blocks, salt licks, squeaky toys, tennis balls, jingly balls, chew ropes, dog bones and stuffed animals to rip up

-they have four seperate food bowls- one for reggie rat food, one for fiesta rat food, one for fresh fruits and veggies ((occasionally milk)) and one for pellets

-Their cages and litterboxes are cleaned every couple of days

-they have free reign to play wherever they want in my room ((they are well behaved and potty trained. thank goodness lol))

-they go to the vet whenever they need it

-they go on walks and adventures with me when I go places

See? Not everyone keeps their little buddies confined :P

Hope this puts more faith in the rodent community!

I currently have a dwarf hamster, he lives in a 20 galloon glass aquarium. I clean they toys in his cage about once weekly, and clean out some of the bedding once a weeks also. I clean the whole cage itself once a month, because he is very clean.

I take him out on the weekends and let him run around in his ball or the playpen for a while til i can tell he gets tired. He doesnt enjoy to be held, so i just pet him when in his cage, or playpen.

I refill his food and water bowl as he needs, b/c he never over eats.

He loves to burrow so I always make sure he has tons of bedding to do that, and many hidey houses to snuggle in. He loves running in his wheel at night, and it drove me crazy, so i finally bough him one of those silent wheels (best hamster invention ever!!)

well i have a hamster called caramel. she lives in a rectangular glass aquarium, she lives on a thick floor on soft 'carefree' hamster bedding, she has a wooden house that she fills with the bedding to make an insulated cave and she has a blue wheel, many chew toys shaped as various fruits and vegetables. she has a glass water bottle with a yellow duck floating in it so i can always see her water level. i also sometimes give her empty toilet paper roll to chew. the rolls i dont give to her i give to my gecko to hide in. caramel is very happy she lives in what i believe is the safest domestic hamester environment possible. i am often taking her out of her cage and she is such a lovey! shes quite cuddly and very sweet and enjoys being out. i love sugar gliders i have done alot of research on them and hope to possibly get one when i am older. i introduced the species to my younger sister who loves them very much and has already picked out a name for hers. unfortunatly we wont be getting sugar gliders any time soon, our house has reached its pet holding capacity with two hamsters a sun conure a cockatiel a gecko a dog a rabbit (rescued from our schools science wing) and about a dozen different fish scattered throughout our house. all of our pets are cared for and played with. princess squinty, our other hamster, lives in a near identical environment to caramel. our rabbit, who we rescued, lives in a rabbit cage and she is very happy there. we used to hold her alot and let her hop around in the room sometimes but she is sick now :( and on cage- rest. we take great pride in the devotion and time we put into caring for all of outr animals.
