Do you think too many cesarean deliveries are performed in America?
I recently heard of a hospital in Ogden, Utah publicizing its newly opened Cesarean Wing. They were offering refreshments and door prizes and bragging about the huge rooms and flat screen TV's. It got me thinking that maybe some doctors and hospitals are taking this too far. I mean, isn't a c-section MAJOR surgery and reserved for medical emergencies?
If they want to advertise and draw women in, they should be publicizing their regular maternity ward and all the great things they have there to help women AVOID c-sections.
Your thoughts?
P.S. I've had a c-section myself (my first baby) and it was performed uneccessarily (we found this out later on).

It is happening in the UK too. 'To posh to push' is the title given to these silly women.

Sounds like this hospital is pandering to the fathers and not the mothers (big screen TV and wi-fi). What a joke!
No matter what type of delivery they have, what new mothers need most is lactation consultants, postpartum support and help with their newborns, not TV and internet access.
And yes, there are many hospitals in America that have shamefully high cesarean rates. But there are good hospitals, too, that work to keep them low, as they should. Medical facts prove over and over that natural birth is always safest and best when possible.
Hospitals should do everything they can to keep c-section rates down, and all other artificial interventions as well (i.e. drugs, episiotomies, catheters, IV, etc.)

Interesting?? Would that be that new mom are fat and not in a perfect condition to a natural child birth. I have Csection long time ago on an emergency as the water broke and no contraction. It is a major surgery that heals within 2 yrs later. I wish I have the natural childbirth and not have this cut which is traumatic to the body.

C-sections should only be performed when necessary. People are trying to change the way you birth a baby today. They are allowiing them to pick and choose when and how to give birth. This world gets crazier by the day
