Anyone know about the Census?

I really do not give a hoot about that thing and do not want any of my information shared with anyone in any governmental capacity. Do I have to answer that darned flier and if not will they send someone to my house and do I have to answer their questions?

I would really rather be left the heck alone.

Update:

I read this article and it says a lot

That article is a bunch of BS. The US Census is mandated by the US Constitution as a means of allocating seats in the house of representatives, as well as local and state funds.

They do not share your information with any other government agency. If the government was that concerned with tracking you down they have a host of other records to go off of, such as your income tax return, DMV records, etc...all of which have a ton more information attached to them than is asked on the Census Questionnaire. The Census Questionnaire doesn't ask for your social security number, DL number, or anything like that. It's less invasive than applying for a job.

If you don't fill out the mailer and send it back by April 1, then yes, someone will come to your door as many times as it takes to get you to fill it out. If you still refuse to fill it out, they may gather household information from neighbors, just by asking them how many people live there.

Also, you should know that anyone who works for the Census CANNOT simultaneously work for the IRS or any law enforcement agency. Census information is used for Census purposes only.

Refusal to complete the Census can possibly result in a $100 fine ($500 for providing false information, or up to $1,000 for providing false information with the intent to manipulate statistics).

    The Census is Constitutionally mandated.

The flier is asking very minimal information.

yup you got to fill the flier out. April 1st they will be knocking on your door if you don't. Its not a big deal your name ,age, race, how many people are living in your house. they don't ask for your ss number or how much you make. but you do haveto answer it its the law or so they say.

There is nothing that personal. Just who lives in your home. It is a federal crime to refuse to supply the information.
