NRL: Dally M Awards. Are they are a complete joke?

Here are the Dally M votes for Round 1.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/dally-m...

If last year's debacle of Ennis winning Hooker of the Year despite being outpointed by Farah wasn't bad enough, Laurie Daley has given out Dally M honours this round to a bloke who barely played any minutes and who was sin binned for a cheap high shot. This further undermines the credibility of the Dally M awards.

Is anyone else concerned about the Dally M Awards losing their prestige?

Don't worry. They lost their prestige long ago, when players not wearing the 1, 6, 7 and 9 jerseys stopped winning.

The Dally M Player Of The Year Medal has tended to be about halves and full-backs for too many years to count.

When it comes to players in various positions being awarded Dally M "Whatever" Of The Year, who really ever agrees with the choices?

I'm starting to think they're as big a joke as the Allan Border Medal.

I'm far from a Manly or Rose mark but I think you got this one wrong. I thought he was the most effective forward on the ground. Tigers were dominating until he came on then the game swung Manly's way.

Cheap shot aside I thought he was deserving of the point. Doesn't matter how many minutes you play its how you play them!

I do agree with the your point of the Dally M award losing its prestige. They should have 2 supreme Dally M awards one for the backs including hooker and one for the forwards.

Didn't they watch Moltzen play? Or Farah? Or even bloody Gareth Ellis? I know Georgie and Lyon were good, but there team still lost. Two guys from the losing team getting points, it's not like the only reason we won was because we had Benji. Oh well, still early days. I don't agree with the Knights or Panthers voting either. A couple of guys who played good in those teams should have got points.

Yeah i agree with Sir Paddles, obviously it is impossible for a forward to be the league's best player. I remember Preston Campbell winning a while back and NSW didn't want him, Australia didn't and I think he was struggling to find a new club at the time, nothing against him, I think he is a really good player but it shows something is wrong with the scoring system.

Don't freak out to much my friend as it well noted that it is still early days... However I do get what you are saying about George Rose but you have to admit he played a good game not great but good enough to get a toenail in the door of even being looked at after his high tackle. Don't think to much into Daleys pick his choices change from week to week just like his dribble in the box!

yep, i don't like the way the points are given out.

we need a system like say dragons beat the bulldogs, then the bulldogs players/coaches choose 2 dragons players for 3points and 2 points respectively, then the dragons players/coaches choose a bulldog for 1 point, in the event of a draw maybe both sides pick a player and they both get 2 points each or something.

i dont like how someone on the sideline with his own opinions can choose who played the best.

    Its just not cricket.

needs a change, and thats just my opinion =)
