Mirena vs Implanon... what are your personal experiences?

I need to switch birth control- I can no longer use any method with estrogen for medical reasons, and i cannot gt the Paragard because I'm allergic to copper. I'm going to be taking Micronor for the next month or so, but it needs to be taken at exactly the same time every day, and I'm not going to be able to pull that off for long. Mirena and Implanon are my top two choices right now, and I've read a lot of good and bad reviews for both (however it seems like there are a lot more negatives regarding the Implanon's side effects) but am just curious as to what your personal experiences are, and if you would recommend either one of these methods. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Note: I am 21 yrs old with no children and no plans to have any any time soon, and I am in a long term monogamous relationship.

Mirena hands down. There is absolutely nothing good about the Implanon and anyone that says it is good hasn't taken out as many as I have. Patients universally hate implanon and want it removed

  • well usually a dr wants you to have a kid before you get mirena since its a possibility it can make you sterile and it can punch a hole in your ovary.also before you have sex and every so often you have to check to see if it has moved (meaning coming out) That's why i didn't get it i went with implanon so far so good. i have had it for 4 months and i love it and have no period. i have had no side affects and its no bothersome. but if your scared of needles probably not the best even though it was quick and painless

i have implanon. i wanted that over mirena because the thought of that thing just sitting inside my uterus freaked me out! and having to check to see if the string is still hanging out? gross to me. i've been very happy with implanon so far.
