IF THIS BILL IS SO GOOD FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD IT NOT BE PUT UP TO A DIRECT VOTE?

Rather than all the bull, If these pols have the courage of their convictions should they not stand tall and say I voted for it. If they believe in it what do they have to fear ?

Folks that believe in this bill, If it really is good for America shouldn't those who vote for it be held accountable for it? Are we not all held accountable for our actions. Please try to avoid the nasty terms

Update:

Edit@ sassy We don't vote on going to war. Try again. If the members of both houses believe in this bill then they should be able to stand behind it.

Yep! I think we have the RIGHT to know how the politicians that represent US vote on our behalf!

This has grown into one of the most controversial political issues ever. Democrats are being offered "Sweetheart deals" to change to a "yes" vote! States are passing laws to keep the health care out of their state! Some states are even suing the Federal government over this. Any Democrats running in November is not going to get elected if they vote for this. Obama had to bring in Al Sharpton, to try to calm down black leaders, who are angry that Obama hasn't done anything for blacks. Fox News is reporting that Obama's Presidency is in jeopardy.

I am THRILLED that people are starting to WAKE UP!

The more of your rights they take away.......the bigger and more powerful the government gets! :(

God, Bless America! Save our country, and deliver us from evil.

(God will NOT let evil win, he never does!)

You know, I started to write an answer that was something about, "Yes, of course, transparency in government, kick the bums out, etc, etc" when I realized what you're referring to is called a referendum, and that's how they amend the state constitution in California. I also realized that it's definitely a contributing factor to why California is in such a budget crisis (and the US, too... hmm, strange parallel, non?) They voted in their healthcare without defining a way to pay for it, and now it's probably the largest black hole they've got in their budget. Now we look to do the same on a national scale.

I'm all for national healthcare -- if we can reasonably pay for it. Premiums are out of control, doctors' rates are out of control, reimbursements are out of control ($16 for a baby's binkie? $1k for a toothbrush? See CNN's video reports. I wish I was kidding.) If we vote in this sort of stupidity -- either directly by referendum or indirectly by means of our Congressional representatives -- we deserve exactly what we'll get, which will be nothing more than fiscal chaos and mindless, labyrinthine bureaucracy. These guys can't get our tax code straightened out into something straight forward and meaningful. They're the same ones who dreamed up the Medicare 'donut hole' with its weird noncoverage of vital medications for our elderly. Letting the government manage our healthcare entirely is sick thinking indeed.

Absolutely....and something of this importants should be voted on by the PEOPLE, not the crooks in washington. They should make the bill itself available to everyone to read, by whatever means it takes. We still don't know what's all "hidden" in the bill. You can't trust any politician to tell you the truth, especially the jerks in the white house. This is BIG! But they don't care what the majority wants, and the others that say they want it really can't understand it. They're just standing by obamas plan because their part of his herd and their blind.

This would solve all our problems

in the history of the Democrat party * they always turn a stunning victory into defeat*

if we are to be forced to have government sponsored health care...then we as a country have the right

    to repudiate this socialistic program

Most people are miffed at being forced to chose a government program

You mean like we got to vote on whether we would go to war with Iraq?

This is what we elect members of Congress for.

IF THE BILL IS SO BAD, WHY ARE THE INSURANCE COMPANIES SPENDING MILLIONS TO STOP IT?
