Does the Large Hadron Collider, pose any danger to earth?

Ive heard a lot about it again in the media. They have got the energy of proton beams to 3.5 Tev, but will soon collide the protons at 3.5 Tev for a total energy collision of 7 Tev.

Im scared about the following scenarios that have been documented, that the LHC could produce.

Black Holes

Strangelets

and other doomsday scenarios.

Will it destroy the earth?

    No.

A few nutcases are trying, for whatever reason, to scare people. The media, who don't know any better, are lapping it up.

Something to think about: when the U.S.A. was planning to build the Superconducting Supercollider, with much higher energies than LHC, nobody cared. Cosmic rays with much higher energies hit Earth's atmosphere all the time. Nobody cares. Why?

Do us a favour and don't spread this garbage any further.

Oh, yes, a black hole that might live for a few nanoseconds is so likely to destroy the Earth! And God help us if the LHC were to produce (gasp!) a lambda particle (which colliders have only been doing since 1947).

worry mongers get me going no longer to problem it truly isn't any longer a comic book e book it truly is genuine science The actual rely is so small compared to the large volume of area the debris hardly ever hit one yet another this reaction is so small if it did make a black hollow it will be short lived and could pose no chance and it may strengthen science and could sometime end the flexibility complications of the international the suitable of the international is coming yet no longer to day in case you won't be able to help then get out of ways for the situations are a replacing

No one even knows what can happen, if they are using any antimatter along with matter they could destroy a big hunk of the earth, and maybe all of the earth if there is enough being collided.

One thing they will tell you, once they try something they know what it will do.

Don't listen to the media they are just trying to scare people. The chances of black holes are very low.

  • Yes, there is a very tiny chance of them opening a black hole. Prepare for doom? Hardly.

    Based on speculations, Yes.

Based on answers and reassurance from the people at CERN, No.
