High oil pressure in truck?

My truck's oil pressure is running high. I checked the oil level and it is not overfilled, in fact it could be topped off a little. I changed the oil a few months ago, the pressure has stayed high the entire time.

What could cause high pressure?

Update:

The needle is on 60. The highest number on the gauge is 80. I always heard it is best for it to run in the middle, which would be 40.

If the pressure is running at 60 I wouldn't worry about it. You may have just changed to a better grade of oil. It's better to have oil pressure that is high than pressure that is to low.

Pull the oil pressure sensor and put a pressure gauge into the threaded orifice and test the pressure.

Maybe it's a bad sending unit?

Could be the oil installed with the change could have been much thicker oil and that would raise the oil pressure!!.

if you have an actual gauge, it could be a little out of whack. it happens. if its between 40-60 psi on the highway thats normal operation, and a little bit higher like 63 is still normal. it varries from car to car. now it if like 80 then it could be a bad sending unit.

Maybe you have a bad oil sending unit. Or need to clean connectors.
