Is there a commercial liquid to remove photos that are stuck to the glass of a picture frame?

I have a very old photo that is stuck to the glass of a frame and i don't want to ruin it any further by peeling it so i was wandering whether or not there was a product that i could use to remove the photo

If it is an important photo of family history, or similar, you might consider taking it to a professional photographic conservator to do the work. If you want to try it yourself, read this thread, as noted by shonoel above.

I've never tried these, but from what I've been finding by searching the web, it seems there are products called photoflo and Undo, that might work in this situation.

Most of the experts offering advice on this suggest that you scan or photograph the photo through the glass befor attempting to remove it, just in case anything goes wrong.

That way you'll at least have a record, albeit not the original.

Hope the following links are of some help, try asking a professional at a camera shop or photography studio. Good luck.

Yes its called distilled water. It is available at any grocery store.

Buy an aluminum pan that is a bit larger than the glass. Rinse it with plain water then fill the pan with the distilled water. Place the picture glass side down and allow the whole thing to soak until the print rises from the glass (this may take a few hours.) When the print has completely separated from the glass, gently remove it and the glass, lay the print on the now clean glass and squeegee it with a new, rinsed squeegee. Hang it with a clothespin on one corner to dry. You may have to take it to a framing store to have it pressed flat after it is completely dry.

EDIT: Photoflo is a soap based substance that is designed to prevent water spots on film. Do not soak a print in it without diluting it significantly, ie one capfull in the pan of water.

The more I think on this the more I agree with the above answers: take the whole thing to a conservator. If the print is very old water could damage it. Also get it scanned before you do anything.

A lot of times you cannot remove them espesially if they have been stuck a long time. Before you do anything clean the front of the glass carefully and scan a high reselution copy of the photo so you can reproduce it if nessary.

I would use Photoflo if you can get it and let it soak until it comes off. Don't hurry it.

Wash it off with plain water when it is released. Pressing it can be a problem as the paper might want to wrinkle or curl.

My suggestion is that if you really want the picture, really can't lose it, then take it to a professional who has the appropriate equipment for drying the print and if there are any problems they can retouch it.
