what is that white crunchy vegetable in chinese food?

its crunchy, and almost tasteless, closest thing I can compare would be a hard pear thats not sweet. I want to say its some kind of radish or turnip, last thing I ate that had it was egg soup, I also had seafood with vegies and it was on it too. Can someone help id love to add it in my recipes?

Update:

Japanese radish can be found in the veggie section and will be under daikon. It can also be pickled and is really good. The slices in a soup would have to be chopped smaller as they are usually quit big. So it might not have been this. I would think like some of the others and have to say water chestnut.

You are probably thinking of eaither a Water Chestnut, Bok Choy, or Bamboo Shoots. Just ask at and grocery store or specialty Chinese restaurant.

I think it is bamboo shoot.

Bamboo shoot can use in soup, saute with meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes.

You can buy a tinned bamboo shoot in Chinese supermarket if you can't found the fresh one.

I love bamboo shoot as well but it can't be found in the UK, but not the city I'm living.

Zucchini is commonly regarded as a veggie, and in layman's parlance, of course, this is far more useful; however, by rigid definition, the zucchini is a fruit, being the swollen ovary of the zucchini flower.

Water chestnuts are nothing like radish or turnip. I'm guessing it's mooli or Japanese radish which is common in Chinese cooking.

It is a water chestnut. They are white and crunchy and don't have much flavour.
