Question about polygamists?
I was watching that HBO show big love and that made me wonder. If you have more than one wife is it like the old traditions of the Orient. The first wife had all the status and the other wives had to obey her. And so it went down the line. Is the same true now? Does anyone know? Thanks.

It depends on how many wives there are. If there are like only 3, then yes, the first wife is sort of "queen bee", BUT if there are like 12 wives, I would say the first 2 or 3 wives reign over the rest of them.

Every weird little polygamist group makes its own rules. None are like Big Love. Big Love has nothing to do with real life.
In most polygamous unions, the man brings home a new hotter younger wife every 10-15 years until he dies. How happy do you think that makes the older women?
Polygamy is living hell for most women involved. They compete for every scrap of attention, affection, money, shoes for their own kids.

I think most of the Oriental cultures in history had concubines, not multiple wives.
