Is it "Equality" that we desire? Or is it "Value" that we truly desire?

i believe it's value, by being "equal" we have a new found sense of value relative to another human being.

For some it would be the value of being seen as an equal amongst others in a group whereas for others, it would be the value of being seen as an independent individual.

"Value" has no content except by the entities that fall under its species. "Equality" is a value in that species, one that we seek to gain or to keep. We do not seek to gain or to keep what is not of value. We either abhor what is not of value if it has a moral nature; or we sell it, burn it, or give it away to someone who does value it.
Interestingly, if we do not have equality among men in our moral and legal affairs, then all other things of value become devalued. Am I not a hypocrite to value my family while despising blacks for having families and filling the land with inferior beings? (That is not my belief, but it does demonstrate what I mean.)

I think people are individuals and every one looks for something different, however, there is a sense of fairness and justice in most that cries out in the face of inequity because it directly impacts our value...can the two honestly be separated or are they intrinsically codependent?

i'd go for equality, since then all are of the same value.

I think we go after quality, excellence, purity and perfection. Otherwise one is free to desire anything.
