Should the NFL change the OT rule?

I say no. because your team had four quarters to show that they are the better team and didn't get it done. The defense should stop the opponents as much as the offense should score.

If your team is better, show it during the game by winning without it going into OT

I agree with you Kaz. I think there is no reason for them just to change it for the postseason.

I totally agree with you. If the defense can't stop the other team from getting a field goal on the first possession of overtime, oh well, too bad for them and they deserve to lose. Last I checked, defense was still a part of the football game.

And the actual results of games don't even favor the coin toss winner by very much:

The NFL has had 325 overtime games since the rule was adopted in 1974.

    The results:

Both teams have had possession 235 times (72.3%).

The team that has won the toss has won 169 times (52.0%).

The team that has lost the toss has won 141 times (43.4%).

Source(s): The worst possible thing they could do is have anything similar to the NCAA OT format. That is the stupidest creation ever.

I say HELL NO. Seriously, what is this amateur hour? I don't see anything wrong with the sudden death OT. Not every team who wins to toss wins the game. It is the same as any other possession during the game. The D has to step and and make a stop while the O tries to make it down the field. I don't understand why the current system is considered to be flawed. This is the NFL, not little league.

I Think they should to the fact that on a team there is 2 sides of the team the offense and the defense and i feel both units should have a chance to play in OT set the ball on the 40 and just have series it makes it more exciting and fair

I think they should put their kicker to test.

If regular time is expired and ends up tie, OT format should be only the kickers' job.

Alternatively, one kicks after the another one so doesn't matter who kicks first

First, place the ball at 40 yard-line, then 50 yard-line, one kicks through and another fails to do so will end the game with the victory of the team who kicker scores.

I think it should change, myself. Going into overtime is virtually starting the game over, other than the previous 15 minutes of play time, anyway. That's all a 60 minute football game is, you know? 15 minutes or less of actually time running plays. So, anyway, I think both teams should have equal opportunity to score in overtime.

    The rule should not change.

Either try to win it before time expires in regulation or play some defense if you dont win the coin toss.

I agree, I also like the fact is puts a lot more pressure on the teams and makes it really exciting to watch.

I think they should change the rules but the problem is no proposed idea would be better than the current rule. It would take a rule that is significantly better than the current one.

I agree with you. 100% Play defense if you lose the coin toss.
