Where did the word 'Snap' come from or who started it?

My kids say it, my wife says it, people at work say it...whats going on??? When did this start and by whom???

(I still say 'Sh*t when I hurt myself- I refuse to change!)

    it came from that show thats so raven she says it ALOT watch it

    It's onomatopoeia, like crackle and pop.

    I always say it to try and curse less -- it's better than "crap."
