What is it like for young women enlisted in the US Navy?

The Navy, like most federal institutions, has taken a lot of steps to offer equal opportunities to all Sailors regardless of sex. Women are currently deployed on many ships, but the proportion of male to female is nothing like 5000 to 7. There will always be differences in treatment because you are dealing with people. But every effort is made to keep things even and complaints are taken seriously. IMHO females get slightly better treatment by the males, but that is not always the case. Care is taken to keep friendships and camaraderie from developing further and the rules are pretty explicit.

On the subject of being a pilot, you must first be an officer. There are various ways to a commission and then you will have to pass an aptitude test as well as a detailed physical. Some enlisted sailors wind up as commissioned officer pilots, but it is a long row to hoe.
