Breastfeeding problems with previous babies, pregnant again?
I have had 2 babies, and had major supply issues with both. Although I nursed them from birth, my milk never really came in, never had any engorgement, and was never able to exclusively breastfeed, I always had to supplement, first with an SNS and then with a bottle. Pumping never made any difference, most of the time nothing would come out. I had some success with fenugreek and other herbs, but it was still never enough. Is there any other options for me? Any medications? I am 11 weeks with #3, is there anything I should do during pregnancy to help with milk production when the baby comes?

My best advice would be to get in contact with your local LLL chapter: http://www.llli.org/WebUS.html There are lots of things that can be done to help you. Also - in case you didn't know - not being able tp pump anything & having no engorgement aren't necessarily an issue with breastfeeding. Lots of women have successfully nursed without either one of those ( my BFF for one). I would also join on online breastfeeding support group - it's full of info & great support. I am sorry it didn't work out before. It does not mean it can't work out this time. Make sure too that any LC you see is an IBCLC. The LC's at many hospitals seem to be L&D nurses with a *little* extra training. It is good to know the qualifications of the person offering the help ahead of time. I received some really bad advice from Dr's, hospital staff & even LC's - but I have also had a few that knew what they were talking about. My BEST help came from my LLL leader.

I have the same problem. My girl is 6 months old now and I had to supplement from 2 weeks as she was tiny when born and lost 10 ounces. I'm still persevering. She has breastfeeds at night and morning as also back at work. I am using milk thistle and its hlping slightly. I've also heard that domperidone a prescription drug, can help increase milk supply. But having read hundreds of articles on increasing milk, they all say frequent nursing and pumping, like every two hours is the best means of increasing supply. Infertility can be caused by a huge number of factors: hormone imbalance, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Endometriosis, Anovulatory Cycles, physical blockage, inadequate hormone production, short luteal phase, lack of lutenizing hormone, high levels or prolactin, and many others. Poor nutrition often plays a major role, as does exposure to toxins. Age plays less of a role before menopause than was originally thought. While there are many wonderful naturally minded fertility specialists out there, in many cases it is not possible for them to test for and address any of these possible underlying issues.
