Is there a real difference between inner and outer peace?

Or is the outer simply a reflection of the inner? Yet if this is true, how can there be individuals who are at peace within while there is chaos externally? Is it that these individuals no longer perceive this external reflection as chaotic...but as something different when viewed from a higher angle?

My mentor was known to say if you want to know the state of your mind look at the condition of your house!

We project the outer, what is within will be projected outward.

    As within so without!

"They" also say change your mind & you change your world.

You see the world from the place you stand, the adept sees the world from a different perspective or POV so what they observe is different. Both are a reflection of the inner world.

We see this because we believe it & we believe it because we see it.

A paradox that is broken when we come to Remember!

May we all seek & gain the clarity of vision only Remembrance can give!

    Many Blessings!

There is a difference when viewed relative to our experience and minds.

But that is like asking if there is a difference between up and down. Which yes perhaps relative to gravity up is above and down is below. But "as above so below" which lets us remember that in reality we are on a rock floating through space so there is truly no up and no down...there is no inner and outer...nor is there peace or chaos. It is all the same with the only thing pointing out the differences is our very faulty mind. All of these terms are relative.

we cannot look at the internal or external as being either peaceful or disruptive. When looking at our internal and external we do not see individual parts rather we see processes......we see many moving parts of the system. A system can be broken down into all of its constituents and then we can analyze. For example we cannot say the external world on the whole is one thing or another in this case peaceful vs chaotic. We can however take out individual parts and we can say that things like war, competition, greed, fear, morality, acquisitive behavior etc are all chaotic in nature. They serve to offset the balance to the negative dark below. Then we can look at things such at truth, honesty, loyalty, and justice and see that those serve to tilt the balance into the positive light above. Furthermore we cannot ever truly rid ourselves of the negative or else we would cease to experience the positive. What I am getting at is that the underlying guiding force is one of balance.

And when the individual is able to live by the guiding force then they can be in the midst of global wars, poverty, fear, greed etc yet their minds are at perfect ease. This type of person is a peaceful individual part of a chaotic system. they are a "Peaceful Warrior" at peace in a world of total and utter chaos.

Can you judge a book by its cover ?

If you can then it is doggone transparent !

What I am saying is that"Outer Peace" is what is expressed on the surface---it MAY or it MAY NOT bear some connection to what is inside. In fact the existence of a connection to what is contained within is not necessarily apparent nor is it known if there is (as in some situations) a necessity for some connection between inner and outer !

We have all encountered people who been dipped into 'Glaze', coated, or plated with some covering to make them appear smoother, prettier, larger, smaller, etc. The entire cosmetics industry is dedicated to improving what is perceived as "Beauty" It is refreshing when a beautiful someone appears and upon examining, probing, dissecting it becomes clear that the beauty permeates their entire being--inner and outer. Hopefully their 'peace' follows the homogeneity of their character.

Blessings to all. Inner peace comes from source and outer peace comes from circumstance. Source never changes. Circumstances change all the time. One last for ever the other lasts as long as circumstances remain the same, a little while. One is experienced as joy and the other as happiness. Joy is of the soul and happiness is of the ego/mind. One is substantial and the other is insubstantial.

The world of outer form does not contain the attributes our hearts long for. When we seek satisfaction from what is insubstantial we will always lose what we gain and be disappointed.

Outer peace last for a time but inner peace is timeless/Eternal.

Inner peace is the kind of peace Jesus told His disciples that He gives them and also leave them with because He knew there were going to face persecution, trials and even death because of Him , He told them this peace I give you , the world could never take it away from you because Jesus is the only one that can make all believer enjoy this peace like a river and His joy which is unspeakable. Very insightful and uplifted question. Peace to all of God people.

Source(s): life experience dealing with inner and outer peace , and to me inner peace is better since the Lord looks at our hearts, our inner appearance , while man judges one another, and also look at our outside appearance.

Inner peace and boredom are two facets of the same thing, I think. Both are states of awareness and both have their purpose in our lives. Of course the enlightened ones are able to live perennially in a state of inner peace and serenity. But for the vast majority of us, those who are still seeking to be enlightened, inner peace continues to be something that we only achieve for periods of time. Although most people think boredom as a negative aspect of our inner psychological, emotional and psychic wellness, I don't. I think boredom might be one of the ways our spirits have of telling us that we have reached a plateau of some sort and, well, that we need to move on to the next step/phase. If you think about it, boredom might actually be a tool that helps us to eventually attain inner peace. Like a calling to action, if you will. Nothing wrong with being bored. Nothing at all. But staying bored and not looking for ways to move away from boredom... well, that's not a very wise choice. For any of us.

There is simply if you so choose there to be. Peace is Truth, Truth is Life, Life is Love, Love is Light, Light is Peace.

We sparse words like a master butcher with his trusty cleaver. Inner, outer - this is only perception. The individuals that you speak of, those of whom are at peace are not in a place or destination of peace. Nor is it within them. They simply ARE peace. And in return peace IS them.

Words are the bricks and logic is the mortar for building the walls of separation. Trust them not, for the mind is most clever while under the premise of ego. Let your heart guide you.

    Blessings

Yes, inner is the expression and reflection of the outer and the vice versa. Inner/outer chaos reflects in each other as well. One who can detach from both rises to higher plane of existence for the good of self and all others.

Outer peace is a lack of hostile physical action. Inner peace is a sense of stability and optimism even in the midst of a war.

I think that when there is peace within, there can also be 'outer peace' ...peace outside of just the mind, peace in a society. Cause when a group of people holds peace within, their actions are usually peaceful on the outside...

So i think with that said, first we gotta achieve inner peace, then outer peace will result :)

"The natures of things beheld touch not the beholder, who is apart from them, sitting above unchanged, as the character of the house affects not the lamp.

Like the sun which witnesses the act, like the tongued flame that leads the conflagration, like the rope that holds what is raised; thus am I, standing on the summit, the conscious Self.

I am neither the actor, nor the causer of acts; I am neither he who enjoys, nor he who brings enjoyment; I am neither the seer, nor he who gives sight; I am the unequalled Self, self-luminous.

When the disguise moves, just as the foolish-minded attribute to the sun the dancing of its reflection on the water, so one thinks: I am the doer, the enjoyer; I, also, am slain.

Let this inert body move on the waters or on dry land; I am not thereby stained by their natures, as the ether is not stained by the nature of a jar.

Acting, enjoying, baseness or madness, inertness or bondage or unloosing are the changes of the mind, and belong not really to the Self, the supreme Eternal, the pure, the secondless."
