I am no expert on hispanic names but my first impression is that its European. So no I don't think it sounds too hispanic. José id too hispanic.
I think its a lovely name anyway. Unique but not crazy.
I would take what people say on y!A with a grain of salt. I have asked about one name on two occasions on here and on one thread everyone hated and on the other everyone loved it? Some of the names people think up are nuts, I don't want someone who has a child called honey-love having too much influence on how i name my baby.

Matteo is a name from several cultures, not just one. I think it works for your baby even if you are Caucasian.
That said it's very cute. It's my second-favourite form of Matthew. My favourite is Matthieu, the French form.

I like it, and I have actually never met a Hispanic named that. And trust me, I live on the Mexican border, I have heard a lot of Hispanic names. If you wanted to Anglicize it you could make it Matheo or Matthew.

Uhm, no. Matteo is Italian. Whoever said that sounds like both a moron and a racist.
