use to have turtles, Should i change filter for oscar fish?

I USED to have turtles and they pooped alot. My white spongy filter media in my fluval canister is real dirty. I'm planning to get an oscar fish. I have washed the white filter media but it still has brown stains. Can i still use it for the new oscar fish or should i buy new ones. I'm low on cash right now so I was wondering if it's safe to use turtle media for new fish since it still has some turtle fecal in the media. thanks

Update:

yea thats what my friend told me but i dont know if turtle poop will contaminate oscar's water. since turtles are more hardy and oscars are sensitive as a fish (i think)

Its better if you clean it completely and scrub it and make sure there is no bacterial contamination that could place your new Oscar's health in jeopardy.

Just wash it and it will be fine.

It's going to get filled up with Oscar poop just as quick as the turtles did..

    Poop is basically poop.
