I need a lot of Algebra/Geometry help...please....?

I have several questions that I need help with. My friend usually helps me but is unavailable this week. Please show all the details to how the problems are worked out. I don't want the answers, I want to be able to pass my test too ;)

Find an equation of the line having the given slope and given point?

(-3,-1) (-4,-9)

Find an equation of the line having the given slope and given point?

(1/4,-1/2) (3/4,3)

Write an equation of the line containing the given point and parallel to the given line. Express your answer in the form y=mx+b.

(8,9) x+8y=3

Thank you in advance :)

    okay for the first one:

    m=y(two)-y(one) over(/) x(two)-x(one)

    m is the slope.

    m= (-9) - (-1) / (-4) - (-3)

    m = -8/-1

    m=8

    then the equation for any line in slope intercept form is y=mx+b

    m is the slope, b is the y intercept.

    so choose one of the pairs, and plug in what you know, the slope, y, and x. We'll use the first pair.

    -1=8(-3)+b

    -1=-24+b

    23 =b

    therefore your equation in slope intercept form is y=8x+23.

    The second one is the same thing. Now that you know how to solve it, I'm not going to give you the answer. See if you can solve it on your own, otherwise I'll help walk you threw it later.

    okay so we have the equation, let's turn it into y intercept form since that's how the problem wants an answer.

    subtract x from both sides. You have 8y=-1x+3.

    Now divide by eight on both sides.

    You get y=-1/8x+3/8.

    a parallel line is any line with the same slope and a different y intercept, so any line parallel to this one will have the equation y=-1/8x+b

    so plug in x and y

    9=-1/8(8)+8

    9=-1+b

    10=b

    therefore your line is y=-1/8x+10.

    Hope it all makes sense. Do you have any other questions?

    For the first two Questions you need to find the slope first: (difference in y values) / (difference in x values) i.e. subtract the 2nd numbers of the two points and divide that by the number you get when you subtract the 1st numbers of the two points.

    Once you have the slope, you can use the point slope form of a line: (y-y1) = m (x - x1) Where y1 and x1 are just the x and y value of either point.
