Why Are Many Citizens Politically Ambivalent Or Indifferent Toward Public Officials?

powerless in the face of career politicians everyone hates but locals always send back to make them more sausage

We have learned that our government is no longer "Of the people and for the people" so the people are no longer connected.

The public officials are largely considered evil and corrupt. Who wants to deal with evil and corrupt people.

I recently ran for a local office. This position would in no way allow me power that could corrupt an honest individual. But at least two individuals at different times assured me that should I win the election, I would become corrupt. I did not win. I did not send enough on the campaign and did not get the endorsement of the local paper.

Sad but true.
