1. 2t^5+2T^4-144t^3=0
factor out 2t^3 so you get
2t^3(t^2+t-72)=0
then factor the remainder and you get
2t^3(t-8)(t+9)=0
then set each part of the left side equal to 0
2t^3=0, t=0
t-8=0, t=8
t+9=0, t=-9
Final answer t = 0, 8, -9
2. 2x^3 -10x^2 +40 = 8x
first move the 8x to the left side.
2x^3 -10x^2 -8x +40 = 0
factor the problem and you get
2(x-5)(x-2)(x+2)=0
set each of the three parts on the left equal to 0
x-5=0, x=5
x-2=0, x=2
x+2=0, x=-2
Final answer x = 5, 2, -2
