Driving from LA to Santa Barbara ?

Hello, I'm going up to SB in a couple weeks to check out UCSB and whatnot I was wondering what is the real time traffic is like ? I'm going on the Friday Morning (April 9th) at like 7am or so. Also, are there carpool lanes on the 101 ? Thanks !

Update:

oh and i'm near the 10 and 110 (west LA)

The traffic along the Highway 101 corridor can be very congested & unpredictable. You may want to consider taking am Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train. A good way to connect to the train from West LA wold be to use the MTA Rapid Bus #761 which serves the Van Nuys Amtrak Station from West LA/Westwood. Best of luck!

It may take you 2 hours, or it may take you longer. It can vary greatly depending on accidents, etc. I would leave a bit earlier than 7am, or later after rush hour. If you're planning to drive back that evening, make it after 7pm. Try to relax and go with the flow. If you have a set appointment, leave at least 3 hours to get there, just in case....

I often drive up to visit family and sometimes it's smooth and sometimes not.

UCSB has a great campus, solid academics, and very friendly people. Enjoy!
