Because ab are right next to each other, and xy are also next to each other, they are alot easier to remeber.

Maybe microsoft wanted to be different and put xaby on their controllers. This is a question best suited for an xbox creator.

A B X Y are actually alphabetical order, but there's probably no real reason behind it

there is no reason and why does it really matter though PS3 controllers have X, triangle, square, and circle so it does not really matter and just enjoy your xbox 360
