I can't delete my Firefox location bar history?

I've been having this problem for months now. I have Firefox set to delete history after I quit, and I quit every time I'm done using it. Although the "History" appears to be cleared, when you type something into the location bar/search bar (the one where you type in website URL's), websites I haven't been to for months will still appear as suggestions. I now set the bar to only show bookmarks, since the history is now practically useless for just going to a page I was on a few hours ago, but this is only a temporary fix. I've tried a LOT of things, but nothing has worked so far. Please offer solutions...

Update:

-I use a Mac.

-It also automatically deletes cookies whenever I close out. Still not working.

somewhat bypass to strategies > clean inner maximum documents and make beneficial that surfing history or something you decide directly to bathe out (in case you decide on "Downloads" it does no longer do away with the incredibly record, regardless of the undeniable fact that the record you be conscious interior the downloads area on Firefox) and then decide on "ok" KABOOM, some thing you checked is now cleared.

Google for ccleaner its a free download and a great tool that keeps your pc running smooth (microsoft approved). Every time you run that it clears any useless info and includes all browsing history. Keeps your registry running smooth and improves performance and speed.
