Do you even know what a democracy is?

de·moc·ra·cy   /dɪˈmɒkrəsi/ Show Spelled[dih-mok-ruh-see] –noun,plural-cies.

1.government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.

We do not have a "free electoral system". Ultimately, "supreme power" is vested in our elected officials. It is indirect. A representative republic, if you will.

re·pub·lic   /rɪˈpʌblɪk/ Show Spelled[ri-puhb-lik]

–noun

1.a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.

Perfect.

Update:

I see we have someone who knows Latin here.

The first answer is exactly what I expected to see when I clicked on this question. These people will feign ignorance every time they find themselves on the losing end of an argument. You make a counterpoint that works, and they claim they never made the point to which you're making the counterpoint.

If the Democrats fvck the same way they view leadership, it's amazing they have any kids at all.

A Democracy is a country in which you get to vote.

"A government by the people" - that must be a scary concept for Republicans. Sounds like "Socialism" to me (lol!) Funny, because that's EXACTLY WHAT THE BILL OF RIGHTS SAYS!

A free electoral system means you get to vote for the candidate or issue of your choice. Did you get to vote freely in the last election? For the candidate and/or issue of your choice? I think the answer is yes - you didn't have some party boss looking over your shoulder did you?

A ONE PARTY system, such as in COMMUNIST China (which for some bizarre reason you guys are lately claiming is NOT COMMUNIST - never ceases to boggle the mind) would NOT be a free system because you would only have one box to tick "YES" and the police would come looking for you if you didn't.

Source(s): And NEITHER of these things are mutually exclusive - that's where the lying part on Fox TV comes in.
