Is Victor Ortiz still a rising star? or a lost cause?

he has the skills to go far in boxing, and the physique to go up in weight. his decision to withdraw from the Maidana fight made some see him as a "quitter". he has bounced back well since and with an up-coming fight against Nate Campbell, do you see this kid coming back stronger and ultimately make it to the top of the P4P list?

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz is a very good prospect and good boxer he's up there

in the ranks of the junior welterweight division. I know people would say he

quit in the Maindana fight he just wasn't ready for that level of competition

yet he thought he could stay in there and trade with a hard slugger and that

was not the case the loss is going to help him become a better fighter and

a future champion and he's with the right promoter Oscar De La Hoya. Who

has Victor Ortiz defeated a few big names most recently Antonio Diaz, Mike

Arnaoutis and Carlos Maussa. And he's got Nate "The Galaxy Warrior" next

which isn't going to be an easy fight for him lets see if he can pull an upset.

I would not consider him a "rising star" or a prospect any longer- he is a legitimate top 15 contender who falls just short of cracking the top 10.

Despite quitting against Marcos Maidana in a fight that he was winning, I would not call him a "lost cause" at least not yet- if he loses to Nate Campbell who is a very good fighter but is bit past his prime, I think he should consider changing his profession, and if he quits again, he is done as a prize fighter despite him being very young. Prior to the loss to Maidana, he was seen as a warrior who had the heart of a lion and who would never quit in a fight regardless of what happened during the fight, but his image has been scarred after that loss and scars take a while before they fade away and people can no longer see them, and sometimes, they remain visible for the rest of your life and people never forget how you got them. If he beats Campbell, it will only help his road to recovery and his quest on becoming a world champion- if he can win a world title and eventually avenge his loss to Maidana, I think people will forgive him for quitting in the first fight but that may take a while because it took Roberto Duran years before his fans forgave him for quitting in the rematch against Sugar Ray Leonard. It is certainly still possible Ortiz could become a pound for pound star even though it looks unlikely- if he beats Campbell, wins a world title, continues to win, avenges his loss to Maidana, and takes on the top dogs in multiple divisions, he could still become the best pound for pound, but he's a long way from there right now.

Ortiz is very good fighter, and one of my favorites. He was dominating Maidana until he started to get careless. I would put money on him if a rematch with Marcos Maidana ever happens. He has the skill and athleticism of a dominating fighter, but I doubt he has the heart to become one of the best in the sport. His skill should take him places though.

I hope he can redeem himself, I had high hopes for him.

I think Ortiz has the skills and talent to be a good boxer, but he definitely does not have the heart and determination to be a star in the sport, which was evident when he quit against Marcos Maidana.

Let's see what he can do against Nate.

    Who has Victor beaten?

Maidana is the real deal. He is ready for Tim Bradley or Devon Alexander.

Victor Ortiz has had his chance to make it big but he blew it. Maidana is now the new Castillan name to watch out for the division.
