What kind of doctor should I see for my neck?

I've had decreased rotation of my neck, constant popping, & stiffness. it's been going on for 3 or 4 years. i did PT and it helped for a few months but now the muscles in my neck are so sore it hurts to move my head in any direction. Also the tension in my neck seems to build up and cause major head aches. It takes 800mg of ibuprofen to get relief. I'm not sure if I should go to a chiropractor, neurologist (that's who sent me to PT), or an orthopedist. Any help?

The first response was really good. From a more technical approach, these symptoms really match up with a misalignment in your neck. The headaches you are having are called cervicogenic headaches (which means neck caused). Chiropractors specialize in this type of condition. They should be able to help you. Also, I agree with the first responder, it will take a while to get better.

I really wish you the best

3-4 yrs of pain? Stop fooling around and get to your chiropractor quick! A neurologist will give you some anti-inflamatories and then send you to the orthopedist to wait for surgery.

Why fool around? Get your spine checked as soon as possible. If there's a problem (that chiro can help) get it corrected and start living life again!

I would see a Chiropractor ASAP = ( Sounds like you are dealing with alot. Your first visit they will take some Xrays and ask some questions. Hopefully they will be able to determin what the cause of your symptoms are. I did a 9 month program for my issues. I had lower back pain and used to get frequent headaches. After the first month I felt a change in my body. Chiropractors are WONDERFUL! Its not a quick fix although you will feel better. It takes months to correct an injury. Best of luck to you !!

    A physiologist.

Well, Dr. Bookspan anyway. This article on neck pain may help you or you can go to one of her classes.
